The development of a human being is measured in in units of time, weeks, months and trimesters. Huxley mechanizes and perverts this natural process in the hatchery but, for the most part, maintains the natural order of events. In order to understand the process in the Hatchery it is important to see the connection to natural human development. Below are some links that will allow you to visually see the development of humans and twinning (which is the basis for Bokanovsky's Process) as well as some vocabulary terms.

budding-An -An asexual reproductive structure, as in yeast or a hydra, that consists of an outgrowth capable of developing into a new individual.
corpus luteum-A yellow, progesterone-secreting mass of cells that forms from an ovarian follicle after the release of a mature egg.
decant-1.To pour off (wine, for example) without disturbing the sediment. 2.To pour (a liquid) from one container into another.
demijohns-A large, narrow-necked bottle made of glass or earthenware, usually encased in wickerwork.
gamete-A reproductive cell having the haploid number of chromosomes, especially a mature sperm or egg capable of fusing with a gamete of the opposite sex to produce the fertilized egg.
germinal-1.Of, relating to, or having the nature of a germ cell. 2.Of, relating to, or occurring in the earliest stage of development
matriculate-To admit or be admitted into a group, especially a college or university.
morula-The spherical embryonic mass of blastomeres formed before the blastula and resulting from cleavage of the fertilized ovum.
ovary-The usually paired female or hermaphroditic reproductive organ that produces ova and, in vertebrates, estrogen and progesterone.
peritoneum-The serous membrane that lines the walls of the abdominal cavity and folds inward to enclose the viscera.
pituitary-1: of or relating to the pituitary gland; "pituitary hormone" 2: having abnormal size with overgrown extremities resulting from abnormal pituitary secretion; "a protruding acromegalic jaw"; "a pituitary dwarf" [syn: acromegalic] n : the master gland of the endocrine system

symptoms of lupus-Any of various chronic skin conditions characterized by ulcerative lesions that spread over the body. No longer in scientific use.Note: Lupus erythematosus is characterized by an eruption of red patches, which become incrusted, leaving superficial scars. L. vulgaris is marked by the development of nodules which often ulcerate deeply and produce great deformity. Formerly the latter was often confounded with cancer, and some varieties of cancer were included under Lupus.
thyroxin-An iodine-containing hormone, C15H11I4NO4, produced by the thyroid gland, that increases the rate of cell metabolism and regulates growth and that is made synthetically for treatment of thyroid disorders.
